Language Immersion Program

The Department of Language Immersion Programme at the Nigeria Arabic Language Village (NALV) was established in 1992 with a mandate to provide language immersion and acculturation programs. The village's vision is to enhance the studies of Arabic Language for effective communication and international cooperation in Nigeria.

The Language Immersion Programme replaces the One-Year Overseas Programme for 300 Level B.A Arabic students in Nigerian universities. The department offers a one-year Language Immersion Course (L.I.C.) for 300-level Arabic students, covering two semesters and fulfilling National Universities Commission (NUC) guidelines. The objectives include promoting fluency in speaking Arabic, acquiring competence in reading and writing, exposing students to modern Arabic language usage, and providing a socio-cultural and physical environment for immersion.

The targeted students are 300-level students pursuing B.A. degree in Arabic, B.Ed. degree in Education with Arabic as the teaching subject, and B.A. and B.Ed. programs in Arabic at some Colleges of Education affiliated with universities.

The first semester courses include Grammar, Essay Writing, Arabic Literature in the Umayyad and Abbasid periods, Phonetics, Translation, and more. The second semester courses cover Morphology of Nouns, Introduction to Arabic Literature in West Africa, Arabic Literature in Muslim Spain, Rhetoric, Prosody, Modern Arabic Literature, and more.

The registration fee is Twenty Thousand naira (#20,000), covering examination, ID card, sports, and health facilities. Accommodation fee is Ten Thousand naira (#10,000). At the program's end, students receive a Certificate of attendance, and academic transcripts are sent to their respective universities. The department aims to create an enabling environment for Arabic language immersion, fostering proficiency, competence, and cultural understanding among students.
