TRAIN THE TRAINNERS UNIT Introduction: Nigeria Arabic Language Village, Ngala (NALV) was established in 1992. NALV is located in the ancient town of Ngala, Borno State. The Nigeria Arabic Language Village, Ngala has the following mandates to: Provide Immersion Programme which was designed to replace the One Year Oversea Programme for 300 Level B.A Arabic Students in all Nigerian Universities (public and private), as recommended by National University Commission (NUC). Provide compulsory Arabic Acculturation Programme to all the Arabic Language Students in various Colleges of Education across the Nation public and private as a requirement stated by the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE). Serve as a focal point for the teaching of Arabic to all interested Nigerians. Encourage research into the problems of learning of Arabic Language in Nigeria: translate to and from the Arabic Language with reference to other languages especially English. Serve as the coordinating Centre for the implementation of every policy of the Federal Government as it relates to the promotion of Arabic Language. Teaching Arabic Language to out of school children and Sangaya pupils (Al-Majiri) Arabic language. Serve as a Centre for developing curriculum for Arabic Language. Serves as a Centre for training and capacity building for Arabic teachers. Serves as a Centre for documentation of Arabic manuscripts in Sub- Saharan Africa. Vision: The Vision of Nigeria Arabic Language Village is to enhance the studies of Arabic Language as an efficient vehicle for communication and an effective tool of International relation and Cooperation for Nigeria. Mission: The mission of the Nigeria Arabic Language Village is to encourage fluency, Proficiency and competence in the Learning of Arabic Language and Literature in Nigeria under an enabling environment. Objectives of NALV: The Objectives of the Village shall be to promote the study and use of Arabic Language in Nigeria by exploring all the relevant and available avenue, potentials and resources to make the Village an effective teaching and Learning Centre for the study of Arabic, and a resource Centre for specialized Professional Services to the Public and Private sectors of the Nigerian economy; and a Nigeria Inter-University Centre for Arabic Studies. About Train the Trainers Unit: This Unit was established by Village Academic Board in 2021. It was aimed at improving the quality of the teachers from Primary, Junior and Senior Secondary Schools both public and private nationwide to meet the global challenges. The creation of the unit is in line with the Pillar five (5) of the Federal Ministry of Education Strategic Plan designed to accomplish Mr. President Agenda for education 2030. Thus, by improving the quality of teachers through capacity building and professional development of teachers at all levels, Nigerians would realize their full potentiality of the education and human capital. These would be used to transform the country and also compete with the leading World economist. The teachers of Primary and Junior Secondary Schools are the grass root and the preliminary stage of learning. It is from such teachers that students start learning the alphabets before proceeding to learn any other discipline. When these teachers are properly exposed to modern techniques of teaching and enlightened on issues relating to contemporary challenges, such as classroom management, how to manage teaching a traumatized child or student, how to integrate teaching of repentant insurgent in a class and many more other issues. Objectives of the Train the Trainers Unit: The aim of this programme is to improve the quality of Arabic teachers of Primary, Junior and Senior Secondary Schools (public and private) in the Education sector of the country, while the objectives are to: Build the capacity of the Arabic teachers to be professional in modern methodology of teaching Arabic language Expose the Arabic teachers to the use of Information Communication Technology (ICT) in Arabic language Expose the Arabic teachers on the post-insurgency classroom management and handling traumatize children for past tracking educational development Expose the Arabic teacher to media chat (News casting, media coverage etc) Justification The decade long insurgency in the northeast has left Arabic teachers with limited access to the capacity building and professional development, particularly teachers of Arabic in both Primary and Secondary Schools. Arabic teachers were left with out of date syllabus and methodology of teaching. This made Arabic language to be less attractive at the Advanced levels. In view of this NALV identified some modern techniques that the Arabic teachers lack such as application of Information Technology into the discipline to suit global acceptance. Particularly relevant in bridging the post-insurgency handling of schools enrolment and fast tracking educational development. Programme Duration The duration for capacity building and professional development workshop for the training of Primary, Junior and Senior Secondary Schools teachers is three (3) consecutive days. However, with a request the workshop may extend to the period of Six (6) day. Special Workshop for Six (6) day = Ꜻ20,000 (subject to review). Certificate Certificate of attendance would be issued to participants at the end of the workshop
